2 injured in firing between rival gangs

Cuttack: Two members of rival criminal groups were injured in a turf battle here at Bidanasi under Bidanasi police station area on Thursday, police said.

The injured Tapas Choudhury (22) and Alok Ranjan Sahu (25) are now undergoing treatment at SCB medical college and hospital while police have detained at least six other gangsters, including the injured in this connection.

The rival groups of local gangsters were engaged in an exchange of bullet around 10.30 am near the busy Bidanasi Krushak Bazaar resulting in the injury to two persons, police said.

Police said the gangsters had previous rivalry over collecting extortion amounts on Wednesday night.

Six persons were detained and produced in the court on Friday. All those detained, including those hospitalized, have criminal cases pending against them in the police stations.
