Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday announced to include around 2.7 lakh beneficiaries under Madhu Babu Pension Scheme. With this the total number of beneficiaries under the scheme has gone up to 20 lakh.
 
This was declared by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik after a review meeting here at the secretariat.
 
“The State Government in order to provide social security to more number of needy persons in rural areas has decided to provide additional 2.7 lakh pensions," Patnaik said.
 
Officials said, the move will put an extra burden of Rs 100 crore to the state exchequer and the total expenditure under the scheme will shoot up to Rs 729 crore per annum.
 
The CM however informed that the new beneficiaries would avail the scheme from October this year.
 
Besides, the State Government has also decided to appoint as many as 11, 025 police personnel in different posts in the current financial year.
 
“The recruitment of 11,025 personnel includes raising of one Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) battalion for industrial security and one specialised India Reserve battalion (engineering) which would provide fillip to construction activities in the Maoist-affected areas,” Patnaik stated.
 
While the recruitment process for the appointment of police officers, constable and firemen in 7,569 posts has already started the remaining 3,456 posts would be filled up very soon, he said.
