Berhampur: As many as 18 persons were today awarded life imprisonment by the District and Sessions Court, Ganjam after convicting them in murder of a 40-year-old man at Bairbada under Golanthara police station limit in Ganjam district two years ago.

District and Sessions judge Manoj Kumar Panda awarded the life term to 18 persons for murdering P. Nilambar of Bairibada village on January 3, 2010 in an explosion. Three other persons were also injured in the attack.

The incident was stated to be a fallout of previous enmity between two groups of the village, according to prosecution. Police had registered cases against 21 persons in the incident. Of them, 18 were arrested and three were still at large.
