15 kg gold donated to Puri Srimandir transferred to SBI locker
Puri: Gold ornaments weighing 15 kg, received as donation in last 23 years by the Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri, was deposited by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) in a safe deposit locker of SBI on Friday. The SJTA has hereby decided that after audit of the offerings every morning the ornaments will be kept in the bank locker.
The decision was taken following an instruction of the Supreme Court to check collection of offerings and exploitation of devotees by servitors. Acting on the apex court’s directive the SJTA has issued various guidelines under which it has directed the servitors not to collect any type of offerings from devotees.
The SJTA has also requested the devotees to deposit their offerings in the ‘Hundis’ (donation box) or can hand it over in the SJTA headquarters, branch office or information centre and receive receipt towards it.
SJTA Chief Administrator Pradeep Jena has said that all the Nijogs will be apprised about the Supreme Court’s order.
“We will inform all the Nijogs about the Supreme Court order as many may not be aware of it and we expect that they will follow it accordingly,” said Jena.
