Rayagada: A total of 15 minor children including 11 girls were rescued from Rayagada railway station.

All the minor children from Kanchamuhi village were being taken to Andhra Pradesh where they would have been engaged as labourers in a prawn processing unit, sources said.

It is pertinent to mention here that several agencies engage children as labourers as they take less money as wages than adult persons.

"After getting information, we rescued the children from the railway station and we are conducting further investigation in connection with the incident," said a senior railway official, Suvendu Kumar Sabar.

At present all the minor children are now kept in the custody of the Childline.
