14 yr old donates eyes in Patamundai

Bhubaneswar: In a very rare example, a 14 year-old from Patamundai of Kendrapada district has donated his eyes after his death.

Suffering from serious health problems since a few days, Rakesh Behera, a class-10 student of MN High School of Patamundai was brought to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack for treatment. He died since his health further deteriorated in the hospital.

In an act of bravery and benevolence — Rakesh’s parents have given their consent to donate their son’s eyes to any of its beneficiaries. Some doctors and NGOs have been instrumental in making Rakesh’s parents agree to this.

“I lost my son and now if one can use my son’s eyes, I will accept him as my son. And I am doing this in the name of Lord Jagannath,” said Rakesh’s father.

The very noble act of Rakesh’s parents, have made the school where Rakesh studied proud.  “We are very proud of our student Rakesh who through donating his eyes; has set a great example,” said Aradhana Dash, Head Mistress, MN High School, Patamundai.
