Subarnapur: Locals of Binika and nearby towns in the district today observed a 12-hour bandh demanding filling up of doctor posts in different hospitals in the region.

The locals picketed at different places protesting shortage of doctors in hospitals in the district. While all public and private organisations remained shut, vehicular traffic was also affected following the strike.

As per reports, numerous positions for doctors have been lying vacant for years leading to deteriorating health care conditions in the region.

"Despite protests by Congress and BJP, the government has failed to take any steps to solve the situation. Ultimately we had to take the matter into our hands and call for bandh," rued a local.

The protestors have threatened to intensify the stir if their demands are not fulfilled in the next two days. Meanwhile, the agitation by Press Club to fill up vacant doctor posts has entered the 17th day.
