Kendrapara: At least eleven persons, including four girl students, were injured today as a swarm of honeybees stung them at Patkura in Odisha`s Kendrapara district. The bees attacked locals and students at Bhagabanpur village and government-run Udayabata upper primary school.

The insects made a two-foot-long beehive at the top of a tree in the school premises. A few monkeys ransacked the hive and then the bees went berserk. The bees stung the students in the classrooms and other staff of the school. They also stung pedestrians passing by the school.

"The bees still swarm around the school. It has been closed early as the parents stopped sending their children to the school," school headmaster Maguni Charan Mohanty said. "They were admitted at a community health centre. The fire brigade personnel are trying to disperse the bees," Block Development Officer of Marshghai Sushanta Kumar Pati said.
