Balasore: In the current five- year plan, over 100 plastic processing industries would come up in the country and Odisha would be greatly benefitted by this move, Union Minister Srikanta Jena said here on Friday.

Inaugurating a state-of-the-art Advanced Plastic Processing Centre (APPTC), a unit of CIPET, at Bampada near here, Jena said that establishment of Plastic Park and upcoming Plastics Processing Industries in and around Balasore would boost the requirement of well trained technical manpower for the Plastics Industry.

The Union Minister for Chemicals and Programme Implementation said the APPTC would play a catalytic role in providing technology support services to the plastic and allied industries in around Balasore. Jena represents Balasore seat in Lok Sabha.

Establishment of plastics processing/allied industries would boost the skilled manpower requirement in the area of plastics processing.

Besides, as Balasore was well connected with to all parts of the state and neighbouring states, other industries located would also utilise the services of Balasore Plastics Park, he said.

Odisha's minister for Technical Education and Training Pratap Keshari Deo said about 70 per cent of Odisha's plastic industries were situated in and around Balasore.

The availability of raw materials for the industries here could be increased to ensure sustainable development in the wake of the proposed petrochemical complex by Indian Oil Corporation coming up at Paradeep.
