In a major breakthrough, the special crime unit of the Commissionerate Police arrested a notorious arms dealer in Jagatsinghpur on Saturday.
The arrested arms dealer has been identified as Sheikh Nadim.
As many as 10 semi-automatic guns and 18 rounds of bullets were seized. Moreover, a mobile phone, a pulsar bike and some net cash were also seized from his possession.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the special crime unit of the Commissionerate Police reportedly conducted a raid and arrested Nadim while he was making a deal to sell firearms.
Further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
As per sources, Nadim has been selling illegal firearms in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khordha and Bhubaneswar since 2009. He was also earlier arrested by the Commissionerate Police. Even the special squad of police had earlier tried to encounter her in 2015.
Earlier this month, the Commissionerate Police had arrested three interstate arms dealers in a special operation.
The raid led to the recovery of as many as eight semi-automatic firearms, 32 rounds of live ammunition, and three high-end luxury cars. The arrested accused were identified as Mahesh Kumar from Jharkhand, Mohammad Sakawat from Khordha, and Firoz Ali Khan.
Police sources revealed that the accused had assembled in Bhubaneswar with the intention of carrying out arms deals during the festive period.
