Phulbani: With the arrest of ten persons, the intelligence wing of Excise department here claimed to have unearthed a fake foreign liquor manufacturing unit in Odisha's Kandhamal district

The excise sleuths raided the unit at Kutrasingh village under Tikabali police station limits yesterday and arrested its owner, Subasini Pradhan and 10 of her associates involved in the business.

The illegal factory had been operating in the area for over two years, said Sarat Chandra Bhanja, sub-inspector of the excise squad.

During the raid the squad seized 35,280 litre of spurious foreign liquor, large quantity of spirit, bottles, bottle caps, holograms and labels, he said.

Meanwhile, excuse sleuths also arrested 11 other people, including three women, on charge of preparing country liquor in various places under the same police station.

The squad along with local police, raided several places in Brahmanpad, Tikabali, G Udayagiri and Kakharujholo.

Illicit preparation of both country and foreign liquor and its trade is going on in the tribal dominated district in connivance with local officials and police, alleged several tribal leaders.
