A massive crocodile that had appeared along the Astaranga coast in Puri district was successfully rescued by the Forest Department, bringing relief to local residents and visitors. The sighting of the huge reptile along the coastline had created an atmosphere of fear among people living in the nearby coastal villages as well as tourists visiting the area.
Following the incident, officials of the Astaranga Forest Range immediately issued warnings to tourists and intensified patrolling along the coast to prevent any untoward incident. In view of public safety, a special rescue operation was launched to track and capture the crocodile.
For two consecutive days, a joint team of the Rajnagar Rapid Response Team and officers of the Astaranga Forest Range closely monitored the movement of the crocodile through sea routes. The team remained on constant alert and continued tracking the reptile to ensure that it could be rescued without causing harm to people or the animal itself.

Successful Capture Near Pir Jahania Sea
The rescue operation was successfully carried out yesterday near the Pir Jahania sea coast. Using nets, the Forest Department team managed to capture the crocodile safely after sustained efforts. After the rescue, the crocodile was transported to Bhitarkanika, where it will remain in a suitable natural habitat.
Forest officials confirmed that the crocodile measures 10 feet 6 inches in length and belongs to the saltwater crocodile species. The timely action by the Forest Department helped restore a sense of security among coastal residents while ensuring the safe relocation of the crocodile.
