Nuapada/Jharsuguda/Nayagarh: Nor’wester rains lashed several parts of Odisha on Wednesday killing one person and causing extensive damage to houses and properties.

Thunder squall accompanied with hail and gusty surface wind speed wreaked havoc in various parts of Nuapada and Komna blocks of Nuapada district. Torrential rain and wind pounded several houses, snapped power lines and also caused damages to trees and vegetation cover in the region. Bhupata Sabar, a resident of Bhajipala village in the district was killed after being struck by a lightning.

Lakhanpur block of Jharsuguda district also witnessed widespread damage by the thunderstorm as asbestos and thatched roofs of several houses were blown away rendering many families homeless. Trees were uprooted while electricity poles and wires also sustained damage during the thunderstorm.

Elsewhere, heavy rainfall and wind destroyed houses and wrecked electric wires causing disruption in power supply in Daspalla area of Nayagarh.
