Bargarh/Angul: One person was killed and 24 others were injured in separate road mishaps in the State this morning.

In the first incident, a youth was killed and 16 sustained critical injuries after a pick-up van rammed into a bridge at Ghess in Bargarh district.

All the injured persons have been rushed to the Bargarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

The victims belong to Babupali area in Nuapada district and were travelling to Deogarh district to collect kendu leaves, said sources.

In the second incident, eight people received injuries after a bus en route to Bhubaneswar from Koman in Nuapada district turned turtle near Tubey under Jarapada police limits in Angul district.

Soon after the mishap, locals rushed to rescue the trapped passengers out of the bus. All the injured have been admitted to the Angul DHH. On being informed police reached the spot and started investigation.

"One among the injured persons has received major leg injuries. However others are stable," informed a doctor at the hospital.

"The bus departed from Nuapada yesterday night and I boarded it from Paikmal in Bargarh district at around 9 pm. The driver of the vehicle was driving the bus very carelessly. The accident took place at around 5 am," said a passenger.
