Bolangir: At least 20 to 25 people were admitted to hospital after a reported diarrhea outbreak in Sirol village of Muribahal block in Bolangir district. Five among them are said to be critical and undergoing treatment at Titlagarh hospital.

As per reports, panic gripped villagers after a diarrhea contamination in their area turned epidemic and infected no less than 25 people. After getting information about the outbreak, a medical team reached the spot and started distributing medicines to the villagers.

"The source of infection seems to be the water pipe which has developed cracks in many places. One person has been referred to the District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) and others are being treated here," said Mousumi Lenka, a doctor at Muribahal Community Health Centre(CHC).

Sources said the village doesn't have a good motorable road so people dump all their waste on the road side which leads to water contamination.

Kabi Sahu, a native of Shirol said, "It's been three days since the first diarrhea case was reported here. We are worried."
