Bhubaneswar: Residents of a village under Ghanteswar police outpost area in Bhadrak district on Wednesday punished a youth by forcing him to walk on all fours for allegedly trying to rape a mentally-challenged woman of his own village.
As per reports, finding the woman alone in her house as her husband was away working in field, the youth allegedly tried to outrage her modesty.
But when the husband of the woman returned from his work at a nearby prawn farm, he saw the accused rushing out of his house.
Later when the incident came to light, the villagers sat for a panchayat meeting and ordered the accused to walk on all fours as a mark of punishment and seek apology from the woman and forgiveness from the village deity.
Meanwhile, no complaint has been lodged at the police station in this connection so far, sources informed.
