Chennai: The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) would undertake a World Bank-funded detailed fauna expedition in the brackish water lake of Chilika in Odisha soon, a senior official has said.

"We will conduct the fauna expedition on the brackish water lake near Chilika in Odisha soon. We suspect the region to house some unidentified fauna species. The expedition would be to document those species," ZSI Director K Venkataraman told PTI.

The World Bank is funding the fauna expedition with Rs 2.8 crore, Venkataraman, who was here last week to attend a function, said. This is the third time ZSI is conducting a fauna expedition on the Chilika lake after in 1914-16 and 1984-86.
