Bhubaneswar: Following the recovery of a woman's skeleton from a seized vehicle parked at Janla Police Station on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, the Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW) on Tuesday sought an investigation report from the Commissionerate Police within a month.
Taking cognizance of the seriousness of the case, OSCW chairperson Minati Behera said, "We want the case to be investigated properly and the Bhubaneswar DCP has been asked to submit a report in this regard within a month's time."
Meanwhile, the Odisha Police has intensified the investigation into the case. According to police sources, an Inspector from the Mahila Police Station has been appointed to investigate the case.
Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash has stated that the vehicle had been seized by the Ganjam police in a narcotics case in 2019. The seized vehicle was parked on the campus of the Janla police outpost since then. It is however unclear why the vehicle was parked at the outpost located on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar instead of Berhampur.
The human skeleton had been spotted after a team from the Berhampur police visited the Janla outpost in February this year to release the vehicle.
Following the detection, the human skeleton had been sent to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for autopsy. The post-mortem reports ascertained the gender of the skeleton to be of a woman around 45-year-old.
As per the post mortem report, the deceased was suffering from tuberculosis and had died of natural causes. The senior official at the outpost has been put under suspension for his failure to detect the incident that occurred within the compound.
