Woman stabbed with stump during clash over possession of sports items

Pattamundai: A woman sustained critical injuries after she was stabbed during an altercation over the possession of sports items distributed by the Biju Yuva Vahini in Nuagaon under Pattamundai police limits in Kendrapara district last night.

As per reports, two youths of the village Babul Mallick and Kuna Mallick engaged in a brawl over the possession of the sports items when one Manjula Mallick tried to stop them.

However, Kuna stabbed her with a cricket stump. Manjula was rushed to Kendrapara hospital in a critical condition and later shifted to the SCB hospital in Cuttack after her condition deteriorated.

Following the incident, Manjula's father lodged a complaint with the Pattamundai police.

Police have detained Kuna Mallick and launched a probe into the incident. "There was an altercation between two groups over distribution of sports items supplied to them by the Biju Yuva Vahini. When Manjuala Mallick went to the spot, Kuna Mallick attacked her on lower abdomen. She is undergoing treatment. The accused has been detained while a probe is underway," said Pramod Kumar Mallick, IIC, Pattamundai police station.
