Bhubaneswar: The body of a woman bank manager was found hanging at her rented house in Baramunda area of Bhubaneswar on Thursday. The deceased R Ranjita Rao was working as a senior manager of UCO bank’s Ashok Nagar branch in the capital city.

Ranjita's body was found hanging inside her rented house MIG-51 in Baramunda Housing Board Colony.

Ranjita, who was in her early thirties, hailed from Nabarangpur district, was staying in Bhubaneswar with her parents. Her mother is a retired teacher.

Ranjita reportedly posted a sad song on her Facebook page last night. While the exact reason for which the female banker took the extreme step is yet to be ascertained, police recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem to Capital hospital.

Deceased Ranjita's father R Narayan Rao said his daughter was working at UCO bank for the last eight years and was transferred to Ashok Nagar branch two years back.

“I spoke to her last night after she returned home from office at around 8.30 pm. We played chess and she was normal at that time. Today, we found her body hanging,” said deceased Ranjita's father.

“She was mentally very strong but weak physically as she was not taking her food properly. Fifteen days back, she had fainted and some of her colleagues had admitted her to hospital. The doctor had prescribed her some multi-vitamin tablets,” he added.

The woman banker’s father ruled out any work-related pressure for her taking to the extreme step and said she was enjoying her job.

When asked what could have driven Ranjita to commit suicide, her father said, “I do not have the answer right now."

Meanwhile, police investigation in this connection is underway and more details awaited.
