Bhubaneswar: Even as thunderstorm activities continue to bring showers at a number of places across Odisha, hot weather conditions along with high levels of humidity have made lives unbearable for people in the State. The Meteorological department has predicted that the hot weather trend will continue to sweep Odisha for next four to five days.
Weather expert at Bhubaneswar Regional Met Centre Sashikant said, “In next four to five days, mercury will stay two to three degree Celsius above the normal level making the conditions extremely hot, but there will be no heat wave.”
In last 24 hours, seven stations have recorded temperatures above 40 degree Celsius with Talcher topping the list at 42.5 Deg C. Heat wave conditions have been more severe in the interior and western regions of the State.
Moreover, the scorching sun and frequent power outages have thrown normal life out of gear in Sambalpur and Titlagarh. Markets, bus stands and other community places are wearing a deserted look after 10 am.
Even in the coastal belts of the State, high humidity has made things worse in the scorching weather. Mercury stood at 39.4 degree Celsius in capital city of Bhubaneswar.
Odisha is likely to welcome South-west Monsoon by third week of June this year. The hot conditions will significantly improve after that.
