Bhubaneswar: Citing that despite repeated reminders, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has failed to construct a drain leading to waterlogging in certain parts of Bhubaneswar, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today wrote to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari seeking his intervention.
In the letter, the Chief Minister said that NHAI did not make any arrangements for the smooth discharge of water while constructing solid high embankments and roads.
“Occurrence of such ponding of rain water for such long periods has been observed from the days of construction of the solid high embankment of the National Highway without providing adequate discharge points and ventages,” the letter read.
After incessant rain, certain areas like Jaydev Vihar, ISKCON Temple locality and Acharya Vihar square witnessed excessive waterlogging.
The CM has urged the Union Minster to make arrangements for side drains and service lanes in the city.
“I would request your intervention for an early solution to these issues,” the CM wrote.
Earlier this month, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) had written a letter to NHAI urging it to make arrangements for the discharge of water.
In the letter, BMC blamed the lackadaisical approach of NHAI for the messy drainage facilities.
The corporation had alleged that as blockage in the trap well has not been cleared, it is leading to waterlogging on the service road of the national highway even in case of minor rainfall.
