Bhubaneswar: The dust kicked up in the Assembly by BJD and Congress over Railways’ decision to shift the proposed railway wagon repair factory at Narla in Kalahandi to Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, finally settled today. After the issue stalled the proceedings of the house for two consecutive days, the members arrived at a consensus to bring the issue to the notice of the Railway minister by submitting a memorandum on the same.
It was decided that the House committee will submit the memorandum to Railway minister after the issue was taken up for discussion through a motion moved by the chief whip of the ruling party.
“Today the decision was taken and very soon the House committee led by the Speaker will discuss the matter with the Railway minister,” Commerce and Transport minister Ramesh Majhi.
Earlier during the question hour, the members of Opposition Congress and BJP barged into the well of house and started sloganeering against the State government alleging negligence on its part. On the other hand, the ruling party members also stood up on their seats and shouted slogans.
Congress vehemently targeted the State government, questioning CM Naveen Patnaik’s silence in the matter. On the other hand, BJP trained its guns on the State government accusing it of delaying identification of land and not ensuring water supply for the project.
“It has become a habit of the BJP government at the centre to throttle funds to various projects in Odisha and it is gross injustice towards the State. On the other hand, our Chief Minister chose to remain silent over the matter and like always, the state government started cribbing about central negligence,” said Congress Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati.
“The State government did not cooperate with the Railways in terms of providing land and Water for the project. Despite all the MLAs led by Commerce and Transport Minister Pushpendra Singdeo meeting the chief minister and demanding the said factory to be set up in Narla, the State government didn’t play any part to ensure that the factory is set up,” said BJP MLA Pradeep Purohit.
On the other hand, BJD’s Pratap Jena said “The State government has fully cooperated and extended all possible help. The factory should be set up in Narala or ta least in Odisha. If required, we will go to Delhi to place our demands before the Central government.”
