VIMSAR student meets watery grave in Hirakud Dam

Sambalpur: A third year medical student of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) drowned while taking bath in Hirakud Dam in Sambalpur district on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Sumit Singh of Rajasthan.

According to reports, Sumit along with some of his friends had gone to Hirakud reservoir to take a bath in the afternoon. Subsequently, he slipped into deep water and drowned.

Although, Sumit’s friends and some locals present at the spot tried to rescue him but they could not trace him. Later, after getting information about the incident, fire personnel and police rushed to the spot, rescued the victim and took him to VIMSAR.

However, the doctors at the hospital declared Sumit brought dead. While the body has been sent for post mortem, an investigation has been launched.
