The matter came to the fore on Sunday after a video purportedly showing some doctors verbally abusing and forcing a youth, Mukesh Behera, to do sit-ups in the hospital premises went viral.

However, the doctors counter-alleged that two youths including Mukesh verbally abused and thrashed an assistant professor Suryakant Patjoshi inside the Operation Theatre following which he was detained and thrashed in the presence of police.

Soon, two platoons of police force were deployed at VIMSAR while Mukesh was subsequently detained and forwarded to court.

It is pertinent to mention that Mukesh’s father Thana Sundar Behera was being treated by Patjoshi at a private hospital in Burla. According to him, he was supposed to be discharged two days back but an altercation broke out between the doctor and Mukesh due to delay in discharge formalities. “My son was slapped by the doctor following which an altercation broke out between them. Later, the doctor called some medical students who thrashed my son with rods and bricks,” alleged Mukesh's father.
