Cuttack: Mumbai may be famous for its beautiful pandals complete with elaborate decoration and dazzling illumination on the occasion of Ganesh Puja, but the Millennium city of Cuttack is not far behind in celebrating the festival with pomp and show.
When it comes to celebration, the Silver City is streets ahead of other cities in the state. Whatever the occasion, the residents of the city celebrate each and every festival with characteristic fervour and gaiety that has become part of the city’s ethos.
On Monday, the Millennium City celebrated Ganesh puja with customary zeal. Despite of incessant rain, the city came alive with people in large numbers thronging the numerous puja pandals –magnificent in marvellous decoration and sparkling lights - to offer prayers. The atmosphere was one of devotion and religious fervour as people from all walks of life participated in the celebrations with equal enthusiasm.
Though the city got many big idols of Lord Ganesh on the occasion, it was some interesting, theme based idols of Ganapati that made the passers-by to stop for a while and have a closer look at them.
While the Mahanadi row was the theme of the Ganesh idol at the Panchayat Club pandal near Barabati Stadium, Mahaveer Club near Buxi Bazaar showcased the skyrocketing prices of vegetables through its idol which had Lord Ganesh selling vegetables.
