Sundergarh: Lying in a deplorable and unhygienic condition for a long time, Sundergarh district headquarters hospital is now being refurbished on a war-footing basis, courtesy the visit of Secretary of Transformation and Initiatives (5T), VK Pandian.
As Pandian and other officials are scheduled to visit the hospital tomorrow to take stock of the State Government’s ‘Mo Sarkar’ programme, the hospital authorities are reportedly engaged in a hectic preparation and leaving no stone unturned to spruce up the health care institute.
According to sources, the road connecting to the hospital which remains in a bad shape throughout the year is being repaired now. Similarly, heaps of garbage which used to scape the hospital premises are being disposed off. Patient wards and other facilities are also being revamped in the hospital.
Subrat Pati, the contractor in charge of renovation works in Sundergarh DHH said, “Work order for the revamping activities was issued much earlier, however, the project is underway now.”
Not only Sundergarh hospital, similar instances are being seen in Keonjhar DHH where Pandian was supposed to visit today to review the implementation of 5T policy-Transparency, Teamwork, Technology, Time and Transformation and some other district headquarters hospital.
Sanjay Barik, relative of a patient at Keonjhar DHH said, “All hospital authorities are now actively working to renovate the hospital premises in view of Pandian’s visit. Otherwise, the hospitals always remain in a bad condition. The filthy smell and deplorable condition of toilets are common sight in every hospital. Relatives of patients visiting the hospital also get affected by disease and infection due to the situation."
Madan Mohan Sethi, a native of Keonjhar also echoed the similar view. “The hospital was lying in an unhygienic and bad condition. I heard that the 5T secretary is coming for which all cleanliness works are going on,” he said.
A team of the State government officials led by Pandian has been carrying out overall assessment of the on-ground situation and collecting feedback from citizens on public service delivery after the launch of Mo Sarkar initiative. The team has already visited District Headquarter Hospitals in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada and Bhawanipatna.
