EC monitors Utkal Diwas celebrations

Bhubaneswar: Even though political parties in the state celebrated the ‘Utkal Diwas’ on Tuesday, most of them followed the guidelines of Election Commission of India.

Sources said all the district collectors had been asked to monitor the celebration of political parties. Similarly, no political leaders were allowed to speak on government schemes during cultural programmes.

As per the guidelines, no functions were held with government funds. Events like mini-marathon, which are organized at various places every year, were restricted this year.

Meanwhile, various government and non-government offices including Jayadev Bhawan, Rabindra Mandap in the state capital were well illuminated with colourful lights. Various cultural programmes featuring commemoration of great leaders of Odisha were held in the evening.
