Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Primary Education Program Authority has rolled out two innovative learning enhancement programmes for students in government schools across the state While the Ujjwal programme is meant for classes I to 5, the Utthan programme is for classes 6 to 8.
"These programmes have the potential to substantially impact state-wide learning outcomes and will be benefitting more than 40 lakh students across the state," a senior official of the department said.
"The department has been preparing for these program launches for the past few months. A massive teacher training exercise was conducted in April wherein approximately 1.42 lakh teachers were trained. Special workbooks have also been designed and distributed to all schools for the programmes," informed the official.
The authorities have also engaged a team of expert from SCERT to conduct an impact assessment study for both the programs and submit their report and findings. Both the programs will run in two phrases. In the first phase the classes will continue up to July 31 where in only remediation classes will conduct. No regular syllabus will be taught during this time.
During the second phase that will kick start from August 1 and continue through most of the school year, the teacher will take remedial classes for one period every day at primary level and three hours every Monday at the secondary level.
"The programs are believed to significantly improve the learning outcomes in students especially those who are behind their grade level," said Bandita Mohanty, a teacher.
