Bhubaneswar: With plasma therapy showing encouraging results in treatment of COVID-19 patients, Odisha government has decided to set up two more plasma banks in the State.
The two new plasma banks will come up at Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati Medical College & Hospital (MKCG) in Berhampur and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, informed Pradipta Mohapatra, additional chief secretary (Health).
While making the announcement about the establishment of two new plasma banks, Mohapatra urged the patients, who have recovered from coronavirus, to donate plasma for the treatment of critically-ill patients in the State.
All expenses of plasma donors including their transportation and stay will be borne by the state government, Mohapatra informed, adding that, a letter of appreciation will be given to the donors which will encourage others to donate plasma.
Meanwhile, two Fire Services personnel – Fireman Santosh Kumar Samal and Havildar Tapas Kumar Rout have donated plasma at Sriram Chandra Bhanj Medical College and Hospital (SCB) in Cuttack.
Later, Samal and Rout were felicitated by Satyajit Mohanty, Director General, Fire Services for their contribution in the fight against the pandemic. So far, 10 personnel from Fire Services department have donated plasma for COVID-19 treatment.
“At first around 50 personnel expressed interest to donate plasma out of which we have recommended 10 names to the Health department. Today 2 Fire Services personnel donated plasma setting example for others,” said Director General, Fire Services.
