Nayagarh: In a shocking incident, two persons were killed and more than three persons injured in an attack allegedly by a mentally retarded person in Odagaon bazaar of Nayagarh district early morning today.
According to sources, the mentally disabled person suddenly attacked people in the area with a stick and hurled stones at them killing one person on the spot.
The injured in the attack were initially rushed to a local hospital where a woman succumbed to the injuries. The identities of the deceased are yet to be known.
After receiving information, a police team led by the Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Odagaon police station reached the spot to nab the accused. But the IIC and a lady police constable suffered critically injuries in the attack after the man started hurling stones at them, added sources.
Later, Sharankul SDPO along with a team reached the spot and launched an operation to nab the accused.
Meanwhile, palpable tension prevailed in the area after locals staged a road blockade at the Odagaon main road demanding compensation for the kin of the deceased.
Later in the day, the accused was nabbed by Odagaon police.
