Kalahandi: The M Rampur Police here has nabbed three persons including two minor boys on charges of extorting money from people by posing as Maoists.
Based on a complaint filed on February 13, a team of M Rampur police station led by Sub-Inspector Dasia Seth launched an investigation and managed to catch hold of accused Lakhmidhar Patra (45) alias Lakhi, and two 17-year-old boys of Dudukaranja village in Kalahandi district, who impersonated as members of the CPI Maoists.
As per reports, on the 8th of February, the complainant from Dudukaranja village under M Rampur police limits found two posters allegedly put up by these fake Maoists outside his house. In the letter, the Naxal imposters threatened him to deposit Rs 20,000 within 24 hours in their bank account, failing which he would be killed.
Out of fear, the complainant deposited the ransom in the said account. He later reported the matter to the police, following which a case was registered under IPC sections 387, 419, 420, 120 (B), 506, 34.
During the course of investigation, police found the involvement of three persons, including a 45-year-old man and two minors. They had withdrawn the money by then, sources said.
The two minor boys were detained while police have arrested the third person. Police also seized the poster demanding ransom apart from two HSC certificates of the juvenile accused.
