Two Ex-Navy personnel killed in LPG cylinder blast in Odisha

Kendrapara: Two ex-Navy personnel were killed in LPG cylinder blast at Kharinasi village under Jambu Marine Police limits in Kendrapara district. The deceased have been identified as Prakash Samantaray of Nayagarh district and Sushant Sahu of Ganjam district.

Both Samantray and Sahu were working on contractual basis as boat operators at Jambu Marine Police Station after their retirement from the Indian Navy, sources said.

As per reports, the mishap occurred when the duo was busy in preparing meals inside a quarter at Kharnasi village. The cylinder exploded after it caught fire due to some leakage.

Samantray died on the spot while Sahu was rushed to Kendrapara hospital where he breathed his last.

"We reached the spot after detecting smoke coming out of the house. We entered the house only after breaking the window," said Sapan Ray, an eye-witness.

The fire was subsequently brought under control after Odisha Fire Services Department personnel reached the spot and doused the fire.
