Keonjhar: Thousands of truck owners in the district have urged the state government to revoke the decision to transport iron-ore from the mines to Paradip and other places only by train and to re-allow trucks in the trade. The striking truck owners today gheraoed the office of the district collector to press their demand and have threatened to conduct rail roko all over the district unless the government annuls its decision by November 14.

Over 5,000 truck owners owing allegiance to the Keonjhar District Truck Owners` Association today today congregated at the district collector to protest the government decision to transport iron-ore only by goods trains. They pointed out that thousands of truck owners, including owners from outside the state, would be rendered jobless due to the faulty decision of the government. That apart, lakhs of other persons, involved in anciliary jobs, would become unemployed unless the government reconsiders the decision.

The secretary of the Keonjhar Truck Owners` Association, Pradip Barik told that the association would take the extreme step of staging rail roko in different parts of the district unless the government changes its decision by November 14. The district units of the BJP and Congress have rendered support to the striking truckers.
