Bhubaneswar: With an eye on the international airport tag, authorities at the Biju Patnaik Airport here on Thursday successfully conducted the first trial run of the newly constructed state-of-the-art terminal.

The passengers of a Port Blair-Bhubaneswar Air India flight were the first to avail the new terminal constructed at an investment of Rs 145 crore.

"The old terminal will be refurbished for international operations which is expected to be completed by March-April next year," airport director S Kumar said.

The authorities were now planning a departure trial by the end of this month, he said.

Once completed, the terminal will have two aero-bridges, 18 check-in-counters, four lifts, two escalators, and a security hold with a seating capacity for 600 passengers at a time.

There will be three commercially important person lounge and two VIP lounges at the new terminal, the building of which has centralised air conditioning, a building management system, digital PA and car calling system, fire fighting and sprinkler system.

There will be three arrival conveyors each of 250 feet length a parking area for 400 cars and taxi and 10 coaches in addition to existing facility.
