Berhampur: As many as 23 traders have been booked for violating weights and measures laws in this district headquarter town of Ganjam and Rs 1.45 lakh collected from them as fine, official sources said today.

Sub collector, Berhampur Ajit Mishra said the traders have been penalised for using non-standard measurement instruments and selling commodities under-weight.

The violations were detected during an extensive market inspection conducted by the legal metrology wing officials yesterday in the town.

They also seized at least 22 weight and measurement instruments, including some electronic weighing machines, during the raids, assistant controller, legal metrology, Ganjam Zone, B Trinath Rao said.
