'Tortured' Students Of Deaf & Blind School In Odisha Launch Protest

Dhenkanal: Fed up with repeated harassment and other irregularities, several students of a school for the deaf and blind in Dhenkanal district gheraoed the secretary of the school on Friday. According to reports, the inmates of the residential school located near Kantanali by-pass road staged demonstration alleging that they are not being served quality food and clothes by the concerned authorities.

Moreover, the students alleged that they were forced to starve as no food was served to them since yesterday. As per allegations, the school secretary’s son also tortures the students in an inebriated condition.

“We are not given food. We want immediate transfer of the school secretary,” said a student.

Echoing similar views, a teacher of the school said that “The secretary himself oversees all things. Things were well, but now they are in a state of mess.”

Akshay Panigrahi, secretary of the school, on the other hand, refuted the allegations.

“It is the responsibility of the teachers and other officials to ensure discipline among the students,” said Panigrahi.

Dhenkanal DSSO, Prasanna Kumar Mallick stated that “If there are any irregularities, we will bring it to the notice of higher authorities for necessary action.”
