Nayagarh: Making a mockery of the security measures in place at the Nayagarh sub-jail, an under-trial prisoner (UTP) has reportedly managed to escape from the jail for a second time in a span of three months.
The first time the accused Tapan Rout, who was arrested on the charges of raping a minor girl, escaped from the jail was on May 10. Following the incident, a jail official was suspended while the cops managed to nab the accused the very next day.
However, Rout again gave the jail officials a slip today. As per reports, several inmates of the jail were engaged in cleaning work in view of the visit of district judge. Taking advantage of the situation, the under-trial managed to escape from the jail, sources said.
Jail Superintendent, Sarada Prasanna Rout said, “All the inmates were busy in several activities when the accused escaped from the jail. We had earlier requested PWD officials to increase the height of the prison's boundary wall. But the work is yet to be taken up.”
The Superintendent further stated that efforts have begun to nab the absconding prisoner, who hails from Fatehgarh.
