Bhubaneswar: Tigress Sundari, who was tranquilised yesterday, has been kept in a special enclosure at Raigoda in Angul and her condition is stated to be stable, informed forest officials.
The tigress is being monitored by a high-level committee comprising experts from the from National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and Forest department at the enclosure, the officials added.
As per reports, on basis of the report of the committee, it will be decided whether the big cat will be released into core area or to be shifted to any other place.
The elusive tigress was tranquilised yesterday with the help of kumki (trained) elephant ‘Jashoda’ brought from Chandaka Wildlife Sanctuary. The elephant was accompanied by four mahouts and a team of forest officials.
The tigress brought from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in June, was released into the Satkosia Tiger Reserve in August as part of the tiger relocation project.
But after the tigress allegedly killed two persons and a bullock in separate incidents in Baghamunda and Tainsi villages inside the tiger reserve last month triggering tension in the area, the State government had decided to capture the big cat and release it into Nandankanan Zoo.
