Angul/Boudh: Allaying apprehensions, the Royal Bengal Tiger, which was relocated from Kanha Reserve Forest in Madhya Pradesh to Satkosia sanctuary two days back, showed normal behaviour by making its first kill today.
Authorities of the Satkosia sanctuary were relieved after watching normal behaviour of the tiger which fed on a wild boar. Authorities, who are closely monitoring the movement of the tiger with CCTV cameras, said that they are hopeful that the wild cat would soon acclimatise to the new environment.
As per sources, the tiger preyed on a wild boar between 2 and 2.30 AM and took bath in the artificial water body prepared inside the special enclosure.
“After studying its psychological status and activities, the tiger will be released into the forest,” informed Sudarsan Panda, Additional PCCF.
On the other hand, 27 families of two villages under the Kusanga Mahanadi Wildlife Division residing in the core area of the Satkosia sanctuary are worried a lot as they have been asked to shift due to government's tiger relocation plan. The villagers are now questioning why the government officials failed to provide basic facilities in the villages earlier, whereas now they are making a beeline to relocate them.
“We will not leave this place. Our forefathers moved to this place during pre-independence period. We will die if we are forced to move out of this place,” said Tilottama Behera, a resident of Marada village.
Meanwhile, Boudh Collector Madhusudan Mishra has assured all kind of support to the displaced.
“Rs 10 lakh will be given to the displaced families. Besides, an additional Rs 10 lakh will be provided to those having an extended family. House under the Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana (BPGY) and one acre land will be allotted to them,” Mishra informed.
