Theft accused gives police the slip, jumps into river

Rourkela: A theft accused, who was arrested on Friday, escaped from the custody of Rourkela police by jumping into a river yesterday.

According to reports, the accused Kundan Sahoo of Timber Colony in Rourkela was caught by locals of Nandapada under Chakradharpur area in the town while attempting to loot a house along with his associate.

While his associate managed to escape the spot, Kundan was later handed over to police by the locals.

On Saturday, when the cops were on their way to produce Kundan before the court, the accused jumped into a river to escape from the custody.

"Our operation is on but as the water level of the river is high, he is yet to be traced," said an official.
