Bhubaneswar: Sleuths from the Cuttack Vigilance Cell today arrested a Tehsildar of Sundargarh district after unaccounted money amounting over Rs 5 lakh was seized from his vehicle.

The accused Lathikata Tehsildar Bijay Behera was on his way to his paternal house in Chhatrapur of Ganjam district when vigilance sleuths intercepted his car at Pallahara in Angul and found Rs 5.54 lakh in his possession.

The sleuths also recovered Rs 1.98 lakh from the possession of his associate Pramod Kumar Beura, a retired Revenue Supervisor of Lathikata Tehsil, who was travelling with Behera.

While Behera was arrested, Beura was detained for further interrogation. Raids were conducted on Behera's office and official residence at Lathikata, paternal house in Chhatrapur and house of his in-laws.

Beura's residence in Kuanrmunda was also searched. The whereabouts of the money and where were they heading with it is yet to be ascertained, official sources said.
