Bhubaneswar: The death of the minor girl who reportedly fell off the terrace of her apartment in BJB Nagar area on Sunday remains shrouded in mystery.
Initial reports claimed the girl identified as a Class VIII student of a private school in Bhubaneswar fell off the terrace of her building after losing balance which led to her death on the spot.
However, the family members as well as police remained tight lipped over the death of the teenager girl.
"As we saw the girl was lying on the ground, we rushed to the spot. A shopkeeper brought water for the girl, but her condition was very critical," said a security personnel engaged at the apartment.
Meanwhile, a message that the girl posted on her Instagram handle a few hours before her death has come to fore which indicates that she might have committed suicide by jumping off the building’s terrace.
The Instagram status reads: ‘Bye Bye People’. Later, after being asked by one of her friends about where she was going, she replied ‘Hell. May Be, Heaven.” Besides, ‘PERFECT’ word was found written with a pen on the forehead of the deceased.
Police have registered an unnatural death case and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact reason behind the death. The police officials might interrogate her social media friends regarding her posts.
On the other hand, family members of the minor girl said they were unaware about her posts on Instagram and refused to comment further in connection with the incident.
Sources said, the minor girl was a meritorious student and knew Korean language. She was also good in sketching and drawing. However, her social media indicates that she was under immense mental duress.
This is not an isolated case as there were several instances in the past about the bad consequences of social media and online games. Many school children had lost their lives after playing Blue Whale Game and Momo Challenge.
"If there was anything wrong, we have to look into that and find out the truth. We want the other students remain safe," Principal of BJEM School-1, Sandhya Jena said.
Meanwhile, experts opined that the guardians of students and school authorities should remain alert in this regard.
Cyber expert Prasant Sahu said, "Internet providers should come up with a guideline for children and software companies should allow users after verifying their age. If the user is below 18 years, it must be made mandatory for them to take permission of their parents for using internet."
