Bhubaneswar: With an intention to make students aware about their rights and obligations towards society and the nation, Odisha government today launched the Student Police Cadet (SPC) programme. The SPC programme has been launched simultaneously in 40 schools selected by the School and Mass Education department.
Odisha Development Commissioner, Asit Tripathy informed the basic objective of the programme is to ensure that students get exposed to their obligations through an institutionalized method.
The Student Police Cadet (SPC) Scheme started in Kerala and the scheme was rolled out nationally on July 21, 2018 in Gurugram. Odisha is among the very few leading States, which include Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, in terms of implementation of the SPC scheme.
“We want to focus on character building and inculcating discipline among students at a very young age as it has been observed that NCC and Scout students become good citizens,” said Tripathy.
DGP RP Sharma informed that mostly class VII and IX students will be included under the Student Police Cadet programme. The students will be provided police uniforms and there would special classes twice every week in which the students will participate in indoor and outdoor activities under police supervision, he added.
“Our aim is to guide students properly so that they do not take up any undesirable or illegal activities,” said Sharma.
