Cuttack: Patient care at the Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer center here was hit for the second day on Thursday as Grade –IV employees continued their cease work agitation demanding regularization of their services.

Patients were left to fend for themselves as operations could not be performed as a result of the strike. The Grade –IV employees of the cancer hospital were demanding regularization of their jobs who have served for more than 20 years in the premier hospital.

Situation is turning worst as patients waiting for operation suffer from excruciating pain.

“I am a poor man and have already spent lot of money for the disease. My operation was scheduled for today but couldn’t be done due to the strike. So I am returning back to my home only with some medicines”, said a patient.

With 11 patients waiting for operation, attendants of the patient’s fear of contracting infectious diseases as garbage inside the ward remain unwashed creating filthy odour.

“As the director didn’t take any step to regularize our service, we were forced to go on cease-work strike to present our cause. And the agitation will continue till the director comes to us for a discussion and our demand is met”, said Basant Kumar Sahoo, president of the workers union.

Meanwhile the centre director has informed that the government is already informed about the issue and process for their regularization is in place.

“We have taken all steps and informed the administrative authorities regarding the issue”, said Usharanjan Parija, director of Acharya Harihar Cancer Centre.
