State population rises by 51 lakhs in 10 yrs

However, the child sex ratio recorded a significant fall in the last decade. The ratio indicates 953 females over 1000 males in the state.

In 2001, the state had a population of 3, 68, 04, 660 and in 2011 the state population rose to 4, 19, 47, 358 with an increase of 51, 42, 698 thereby registering a growth of 14 per cent.

The report said the state comprises of 2, 12, 01, 678 males and 2, 07, 45, 680 females. Similarly, in terms of male-female ratio there are 978 females in every 1000 males in 2011. However, there is a marginal fall in the numbers as there were 972 females in 2001.

Interestingly, the literacy rate has gone up from 63.1 per cent in 2001 to 73.5 per cent in 2011. Likewise, the male literacy rate has increased from 75.3 per cent in 2001 to 82.4 per cent in 2011. As far as female literacy rate is concerned, the figures have shot up remarkably. The figures indicate 50.5 per cent females were literate in the state in 2001 as compared to 73.5 in 2011.

Besides, the population density in the state indicates 269 per sq km in 2011 as compared to 236 per sq km in 2001.
