Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly is likely to witness stormy scenes tomorrow as Opposition parties are getting ready to put ruling BJD in trouble. BJP alleged Raghunath Mohanty was in touch with chief minister when Congress said there has been a spurt in torture on women.

The Legislators is going to assemble after a 6-day break. Earlier, on Mar 26, the Opposition Congress and BJP members created ruckus in the House protesting against police excesses on several activists of the Students’ wing of Congress and a journalist.

The Student Congress activists were demanding immediate arrest of ex-minister Raghunath Mohanty in a dowry torture case lodged by his daughter-in-law Barsa Swony Choudhury.

BJP’s state chief Jainarayan Mishra said, “We believe ex-minister Raghunath Mohanty had always been in touch with the chief minister through mobile phone. Helping one accused is also a crime. This issue will be raised in the House.”

Meanwhile, Congress chief whip Prasad Harichandan said, “Over the four days, we will fight a battle against the ruling party on issues like increase in torture on women, electricity tariff hike.”

Claiming that the ruling party is all set to counter Opposition’s attack, Parliamentary Affairs minister Kalpataru Das said, “We are not worried about the opposition's threatening. We hope the House will run smoothly.”
