Bhubaneswar/Mumbai: One of the most critically appreciated movie of recent times, Uri: The Surgical Strike stormed box office records and won numerous accolades but its story with full of patriotic zeal would not have become that enthralling had it not been for its magnificent music and sound effects. And the biggest credit for that goes to a sound designer from Odisha.
He is none other than Nihar Ranjan Samal, one of the most sought after and prominent names in country's biggest film industry especially when it comes to sound recording, mixing and sound designing.
Working alongside Bishwadeep Dipak Chatterjee, Nihar has added another feather to his long list of accolades by winning Filmfare Award in Best Sound Design category for Uri movie.
The 65th Amazon Amazon Filmfare Awards 2020 is slated to be held on February 15, 2020 and ahead of the gala event, nominations and declaration of technical and short film awards for this year were announced on February 2.
A native of Jajpur district of Odisha, Mumbai-based Nihar is an alumnus of Utkal University and Pune-based Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) where he studied Sound Recording and Sound Engineering.
He has worked as a sound designer for numerous hits like ‘Padmavati’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’, PK and 3 Idiots. Nihar is a recipient of National Award for Madras Cafe in 2013 and has also been felicitated with Zee Cine, Producers Guild and IIFA awards for sound designing.
Apart from working as a sound recordist in over 40 Bollywood flicks, Nihar has showcased his talent by working with acclaimed International and English producers and in many other regional language films in India. He had also worked as a sound recordist for Odia movie 'Krushna-Kaberi' in 1999.
