Bhubaneswar: At least six people were injured on Thursday in a clash between two groups over alleged passing of lewd remarks at a girl at Pipili, about 20 km from here, police said.

The incident took place after a youth from nearby Darada village allegedly made some comment to a girl at Pipili town, Additional Superintendent of Police Manohar Behera said.

Angry over the episode, a group of people from Pipili tried to confront residents of the youth`s village, he said adding the clash took place when another group of villagers retaliated.

Some people were injured as crude bombs were hurled by both the groups. Sticks were also used by the warring groups who indulged in stone pelting, police said.

Five of the injured persons have been referred to a hospital nearby while the rest administered first aid near the spot, they said.

A large number of people blocked Puri-Bhubaneswar road demanding immediate arrest of the youth while police had launched a hunt to nab him.

Police personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent further flare up.
