Bhubaneswar: The health condition of one of the separated conjoined twins, Kalia is critical, informed Superintendent of the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Lucy Das.
According to sources, Kalia has been kept on ventilator support for the last two days. A team of doctors are monitoring his health condition.
Born to Bhuan Kanhar and Puspanjali Kanhar of Milipada in Kandhamal district, the twins were suffering from a rare craniopagus disorder. They were admitted to Delhi AIIMS on July 13, 2017 with the help of Odisha government.
A special team of doctors performed the complex surgery in two stages, first on August 28, 2017 and then on October 25, 2017 to separate the conjoined twins.
After spending two years years at the AIIMS in New Delhi, they returned to Odisha in September, 2019. Since then they were admitted at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
Notably, the successful surgery that separated conjoined twins Jaga and Kalia in 2017 was featured in the 2020 edition of the Limca Book of Records as the first such operation in the country.
